Assessments

Get Psych'd offers a range of high quality, evidence-based psychological assessments for young people.

Whether you are seeking a greater understanding or exploring a potential diagnosis our team is here to support you every step of the way.

Cognitive Assessment

Adaptive Behaviour Assessment

Adaptive Behaviour Assessment

Discover your strengths, understand your challenges and be empowered to learn, grow and reach your full potential with the help of cognitive assessment.

Cognitive assessment provides valuable insights into a young person's intellectual functioning, learning styles and areas of cognitive strength and challenges.

They are a comprehensive individual assessment that measure skills such as memory, attention, problem solving, language abilities, and processing speed.

Administered by our trained psychologists, cognitive assessment helps identify developmental delays, learning disabilities, ADHD, and giftedness.

By understanding a young person's cognitive profile, our clinicians are able to offer personalised interventions and support that promote academic success, emotional development and overall wellbeing.

We offer cognitive assessment for young people aged 12 to 16.

Adaptive Behaviour Assessment

Adaptive Behaviour Assessment

Adaptive Behaviour Assessment

Understand how you handle everyday tasks, build independence, and grow your life skills with the help of an adaptive behaviour assessment.

Adaptive behaviour assessment evaluates how well a young person manages everyday tasks and life demands compared to same-age peers.

They are a comprehensive individual assessment, that measure practical, social, and conceptual skills, such as communication, self-care, socialisation, and decision-making.

Adaptive behaviour assessment are important in diagnosing developmental disorders, such as intellectual disability or ASD, and in developing individualised support plans.

By understanding a young person's real-world functioning, our clinicians can recommend interventions that enhance independence, improve daily living skills, and support long term development.

We offer adaptive behaviour assessment for young people aged 12 - 25.

Assessment and fees

Each assessment is uniquely tailored to the needs of the young person. This means the type of testing, the length of the assessment, and the way results are reported can differ from one assessment to another. As a result, fees vary depending on the length, complexity and time required.

Process for assessments

Download and complete our Psychological Assessment Referral Form.

This referral form will be reviewed by one of our psychologists to determine whether an assessment is right for the young person and, if so, which one/s.

You'll receive a formal quote for your personalised assessment pathway and a clear outline of next steps.

If you decide to move forward with the assessment, formally accept the quote and pay a non-refundable deposit of 50%.

Once we receive this, our admin team will contact you to schedule appointments at your convenience.

Our psychologist will work closely with the young person and their parent/carer to understand the young person's strengths, challenges and needs.

Typically this involves an initial assessment consultation with the young person and parent/carer to gather background information, history and developmental context. During this session, our psychologist will explore development history, academic ability, medical issues, family relationship and any other concerns or issues raised, in order to gather a detailed picture of the young person's environment, strengths and challenges.

This information helps guide the planning of the formal assessments/testing and ensures that the assessment is thorough, accurate and suited to the young person's individual needs.

Further information may be gathered from other key stakeholders, such as school and/or other professionals involved in the young person's care.

Formal assessments/testing will be conducted using standardised psychometric tools. Typically these formal assessments are conducted over several 1-hour sessions or in one longer session.

The number of sessions and duration of sessions for formal testing will be determined by your personalised assessment pathway.

Our psychologist will score and interpret the results of the formal assessments, and will compile a detailed, easy-to-understand report outlining findings, strengths and recommendations.

The remaining balance for the assessment must be paid before the report is released.

The report will be delivered via a feedback and recommendation session with our psychologist, the young person and their parent/carer.

During the feedback and recommendation session our psychologist will clearly explain the assessment results, their implications and how they relate to the young person's strengths and challenges.  You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions and discuss tailored support, strategies, and treatment recommendations.

Assessment FAQs

Medicare rebates are generally not available for psychological assessments, including most cognitive, learning, ADHD, and adaptive behaviour assessments. This is because Medicare typically provides rebates for therapy sessions, rather than the testing, scoring, interpretation, and report writing involved in assessments.

Some private health funds may offer rebates depending on your level of extras cover.

If the young person is NDIS-funded, assessment costs may be able to be claimed under your plan where they relate to disability support needs.

If you are unsure about your eligibility for rebates, please contact us to discuss this before booking so you have a clear understanding of the expected costs.

Fees vary because each assessment is tailored to the young person’s needs, the type of testing required, and the time needed for testing, scoring, interpretation, and report writing. We provide a formal quote once we know the assessment pathway recommended for each young person.

Yes. We can start a young person's assessment pathway while waiting for additional information from schools, GPs, or other professionals. Gathering this information may help provide a more complete picture, but it is not always required to begin the assessment process.

The total assessment process typically involves an initial consultation, several assessment/testing sessions, and a feedback session. Depending on the type of assessment, it can take 6 - 8 weeks from first appointment to final report. We can provide an estimated timeline as part of your personalised assessment pathway and time of booking.

With the young person's consent, we may request information from the school or ask teachers to complete questionnaires. This helps provide a comprehensive view of the young person’s learning and behaviour across different settings.

Some assessments may contribute to a formal diagnosis if appropriate, but often the assessment provides valuable insights into strengths, learning styles, and support needs, without producing a diagnosis.

Yes. With the young person's consent, the report can be shared with school to support educational planning, treatment, or additional services.
